Description
Special food for breeding goldfinches or goldfinches Carduelis cucullata from Venezuela, Carduelis Jarellii, Carduelis Xantogaster and all spinus in general.
The Venezuelan goldfinch is a small and beautiful carduelide much sought after by amateur breeders for its ability to transmit red lipochrome canaries. In fact, you can pair your canary (Serinus canaria) and Venezuelan Cardinal (belonging to different genera of the same family of finches), but only 50% of the males resulting from this cross will be fruitful, while the females become sterile and used exclusively as nurses.
A native of the mountainous regions of South America, Colombia and Venezuela, although it can now be considered a domesticated species, it is very sensitive to low temperatures, in areas of origin it migrates between 300 and 1500 meters above sea level in search of constant temperatures between 18 and 20 ° C. The male reaches 10 cm in length and 12 g in weight in adulthood, slightly smaller than the female.
