Description

Prime™ is a complete, concentrated conditioner for fresh and saltwater. Prime™ removes chlorine, chloramide and ammonia. Prime™ converts ammonia to a safe, non-toxic form that is rapidly removed by the biological filter. Prime™ can be used during aquarium cycling to reduce ammonia/nitrite toxicity. Prime™ detoxifies nitrites and nitrates, allowing the biofilter to remove them more efficiently. It also detoxifies heavy metals found in tap water at typical concentrations. Prime™ promotes the production and regeneration of natural fish mucus. Prime™ is non-acidic and will not impact pH. Prime™ will not overload protein skimmers. Use when starting a new aquarium and during partial water transfers.

Almost every brand makes a product that removes chlorine. None of them, however, can compare in quality, concentration, or effectiveness to Seachem’s flagship product: Prime™. Prime™ is the most concentrated dechlorinator on the market. A single 100 mL bottle treats 4,000 liters of tap water. Prime™ removes both chlorine and chloramides from municipal water supplies.

Prime™ also contains a component that renders ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates non-toxic. It is very important to understand how these functions work together. All dechlorinators work through a chemical process known as reduction. In this process, toxic dissolved chlorine gas (Cl₂) is converted into non-toxic chlorine ions (Cl-). The reduction process also breaks the bond between chlorine and nitrogen atoms in the chloramide molecules (NCl₃), releasing the chlorine atoms and replacing them with hydrogen (H) to form ammonia (NH₃).

Usually, dechlorinators stop there, leaving your aquarium full of toxic ammonia! Seachem takes the next step by including the ammonia detoxifier component to remove the ammonia created during the reduction process.

Be cautious when purchasing water conditioners. If your water comes from municipal water sources containing chloramides, a standard conditioner is not sufficient. Prime™ promotes natural mucus production and restoration, rather than using artificial compounds. An added bonus for saltwater aquarists, Prime™ will not overwhelm protein skimmers.

Use 1 capful (5 mL) for every 200 L (50 gallons*) of new water. This dose removes approximately 0.8 mg/L of ammonia, 1.2 mg/L of chloramides, or 3.3 mg/L of chlorine. For smaller doses, please note that each capful corresponds to approximately 1 mL. It can be added directly to the aquarium, but it is recommended to apply it to the new water first. If adding directly to the aquarium water, dose according to the aquarium volume. The sulfate odor is normal. For exceptionally high concentrations of chloramides, a double dose may be used safely. For emergency nitrite detoxification, up to 5 times the normal dose may be used safely. For temperatures above 30 °C (86 °F) with low chlorine and ammonia levels, use half the normal dose.
