Carduelis carduelis balcanica, widespread from the Balkan peninsula to Romania;
Carduelis carduelis brevirostris, lives in the Crimea, Caucasus, northern Turkey and Iran;

Carduelis carduelis loudoni, extends from Azerbaijan, northern Iran and the Caspian Sea;

Carduelis Carduelis Nidiecki, distributed between Anatolia, Iraq, the Middle East, Sinai, Egypt, Rhodes and Cyprus;
Carduelis Carduelis Parva, together with tschusii, is the smallest subspecies (12 cm). widespread throughout the Iberian Peninsula, in the Pyrenees, the Balearic Islands, the Atlantic islands of the Azores and the Canaries and in North Africa;
Carduelis Carduelis Tschusii, lives on the island and in southern Italy.
The systemic and planned crossing with other carduelids (see Bolívia Negrito) gives rise to fertile and fruitful “mutations” of great chromatic beauty.

Instructions for correct use
The wide variety of seeds and the peculiar organoleptic characteristics of this mixture allow each species raised in captivity to reproduce the diet most similar to its natural needs. The daily administration of food should correspond to the average amount consumed in 24 hours, taking care to clean and wash the manger before each administration. This sanitary hygiene practice should also be extended to the drinker, always ensuring fresh and clean water is available.
Colorful note
There are many references to the goldfinch in Western culture, from Greek mythology (Ovid’s Metamorphosis) to references in pagan beliefs, up to the crucifixion of Christ. Several pictorial representations of the Renaissance, including the Madonna del Cardellino by Raffaello Sanzio. We also remember the flute show “Il Gardellino” by Antonio Vivaldi.
